PADDLE STEAMERS

ECHUCA, VICTORIA, AUSTRALIA

Echuca was a major port on the Murray River when the only means of transporting wool and other goods grown and harvested in the area, was by water.

Some of the paddle steamers are private homes, some are tourist boats and some like the Pevensey, are movie stars.

The Pevensey is special because it is an authentic paddlesteamer with its original steam engine. Today the Pevensey is known for its role as “Philadelphia” in the Australian television mini-series ‘All the Rivers Run’, made in Echuca in 1982-1983.
